A little less uncertainty
Yes, international ownership is possible. The registration or permit route depends on the purchaser, property and intended use. Ask a Bahamian attorney to confirm the current requirements before you commit; do not assume every purchase follows the same route.
Property ownership and immigration status are separate matters. Discuss your intended length of stay, work plans and eligibility with an immigration specialist. A property purchase alone is not a promise of residence or permission to work.
Request a written estimate of transaction taxes, legal fees, inspections and any financing costs. For ongoing ownership, include insurance, applicable property taxes, association charges, utilities and maintenance. Obtain current quotations for the specific property.
Confirm the permitted use, community rules and any management obligations for the individual home. Investigate licensing, taxes, operating costs and realistic occupancy before treating rental income as part of your plan.
Yes. Begin with a conversation and a focused shortlist. Documents, video viewings and specialist introductions can help prepare the ground. Plan an in-person visit when possible to experience the property and its surroundings.
We’ll talk about what brings you here, how you want to use the home, your working budget and timing. The aim is to leave with a useful next step—even if you’re still deciding whether The Bahamas is right for you.
For current ownership legislation, see the Bahamas legislation index ↗. Your attorney should confirm the provisions applicable to you.
